The Legal and Cultural Implications of the Letterman Scandal
I just got back to Los Angeles and wanted to comment on a famous legal case that is going on right now. My husband loves David Letterman. As we watched the show last night, I got to thinking about Letterman’s scandal and the possible legal implications. First of all, being a Los Angeles resident I am more of Jay leno fan anyway. And that led me back to the thoughts I’ve always had as I watched the show. First, let’s recall what the fuss has been all about.
I didn’t see any of the episodes where Letterman discussed the scandal, and I tried to ignore it, because it didn’t seem like such a big deal from what I did hear. So I went to the Internet to find out exactly what did happen, at least as far as what has gone out into the public domain. As an aside if you find that you need a first rate Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney then allow me to suggest Ramiro Luis as he is a remarkable criminal defense attorney who covers much of southern California and Los Angeles.
Apparently David himself exposed a wood-be blackmailer who tried to extort money from him. The blackmailer threatened to expose The Tonight Show host’s infidelities. Letterman admitted to having affairs with female coworkers through the years at The Tonight Show. It was reported that this shocked and disappointed his millions of fans.
In a twist to the story, it was an employee of the CBS show, 48 hours, Robert J. Halderman, who was arrested in the blackmailing plot. Halderman had allegedly told Letterman he would publish a book or a screenplay about the affairs unless Letterman paid him hush money. I read that Halderman’s girlfriend, who worked on The Tonight Show, was fooling around with Letterman. Obviously, Halderman will need a very goo criminal defense attorney if he is to avoid a lot of jail time. We will see what happens. I am not sure if he has any type of criminal background but I doubt it.
